Our Mission

Officially formed in October 2019 as the only pharmaceutical distribution association that spans the African continent, the African Pharmaceutical Distribution Association (APDA) strives  to improve the efficient distribution of pharmaceuticals throughout Africa and promote collaboration within medicine supply chains.

Following an early-2018 project to assess the need and desirability of a new Association, the first exploratory meeting was held in Lusaka, Zambia in November 2018, and the formation of a Pan-African pharmaceutical distribution association was further discussed. The initial countries represented were Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. The second meeting, in Accra, Ghana in April 2019, followed and momentum continued with the passing and adoption of bylaws, an initial budget/dues framework and a newsletter.

With an objective to advance the health standards of the people of Africa by convening representatives from the countries of Africa, APDA/ADPA will be active in:

  • Defend and promote the material and moral interests of its members;
  • Develop and share best practices for good pharmaceutical distribution, ethical standards and
    quality objectives in the storage and distribution of health products
  • Acquire, interpret and disseminate for the use of its members and other persons concerned by
    information on the evolution of health-related systems;
  • Assist in the development of more effective and efficient means of distributing pharmaceuticals
    and health-related products for the benefit of African populations;
  • Defend compliance with the legal pharmaceutical distribution circuit with governments, manufacturers, suppliers of medicines and health articles as well as with other operators;
  • Cooperate and provide expertise to national and multinational organizations, both public and private.
  • Lead initiatives to secure healthcare supply chains and prevent the infiltration of falsified or counterfeit products.
  • Support the creation of national associations of pharmaceutical wholesalers and distributors in Africa.

We look forward to having you with us to meet these goals!
